About BKS Iyengar
BKS Iyengar is often credited with bringing yoga to the Western Hemisphere. He presented yoga in a format which his students could easily understand, experience, assimilate and incorporate into their daily lives. By introducing props, he made yoga accessible to all ages and body types. By refining a teaching technique over 70 years, he created one of the most respected certifications in the industry. About the Iyengar Certification
All teachers at Pines Iyengar Yoga are certified teachers in the Iyengar Method. The Iyengar Yoga Certification requires that its candidates complete several years as a student before being considered for the exam. It also tests each candidate's ability to transmit the subject of yoga with clarity. It requires that its candidates be able to modify the class to suit the needs of each student. Asha Watson, Founder
Asha is a Certified Iyengar Teacher. She was introduced to Iyengar Yoga after two car accidents, one week apart. She credits the methodical and systematic approach of Iyengar Yoga to her speedy recovery. She has attended Teacher Training with senior teachers such as Dean Lerner, Rebecca Learner, Colleen Gallagher and Manouso Manos over the course of thirteen years. She has a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and has worked for years as a Software Developer. Her engineering mind continues to be attracted to Iyengar Yoga because of its systematic approach and its focus on precision. She loves that through Iyengar Yoga, anyone, regardless of medical condition, age, or flexibility can experience the benefits of yoga.
