About

Hello, I’m Asha, the main teacher at Pines Iyengar Yoga.My journey into yoga began out of necessity. After two car accidents one week apart, I was left with muscle spasms, pain, and fatigue. At my physiotherapist's recommendation, I turned to Iyengar Yoga for recovery. Within a few sessions, I began to regain strength and stability — and discovered a more grounded, healthier version of myself.
What surprised me was how naturally yoga connected to the way I already think. I have a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and spent years working as a Software Developer. The precision, structure, and systematic approach of Iyengar Yoga made complete sense to my engineering mind. It isn't just stretching — it's an intelligent, methodical system designed to work for any body, at any age, regardless of medical condition or flexibility.
That combination — personal recovery and analytical passion — led me to pursue full certification as both an Iyengar Yoga Teacher and a Yoga Therapist, and eventually to open this studio in Pembroke Pines in 2011.
At Pines Iyengar Yoga, every session is thoughtfully designed around your body, your limitations, and your goals — the same way an engineer approaches a problem worth solving.
Iyengar Yoga provides:
Relief from chronic pain
Improved sleep
Increased strength & flexibility
Reduced anxiety & depression
Better posture & balance
Improved breathing
Faster recovery from injury
Greater self-awareness
IYENGAR
All teachers at Pines Iyengar Yoga are Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers and Certified Yoga Therapists.
The Iyengar Method
The Iyengar Method is a structured approach to yoga known for its precision, attention to detail, and intelligent use of props that make poses more accessible. Classes are carefully sequenced to progressively build strength, flexibility, stamina, concentration, and proper body alignment. This method was developed by B.K.S. Iyengar over several decades as he refined his teaching and practice into a clear, therapeutic system of yoga.
BKS Iyengar
B. K. S. Iyengar is widely recognized for bringing yoga to the Western world. He presented yoga in a way that students could readily understand, experience, and integrate into their daily lives. Through the innovative use of props, he made yoga accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and body types. His pioneering work in the therapeutic application of yoga also demonstrated its potential to support health, healing, and overall well-being.
YOGA THERAPIST
A yoga therapist is a trained professional who uses the tools of yoga—such as movement, breathwork, meditation, and relaxation techniques—to help individuals work toward improved physical, mental, and emotional health based on their specific needs. They typically work one-on-one or in small settings to design and guide a personalized practice that supports the client’s overall well-being and health goals.
Reviews

Asha is very passionate about the practice and that's what makes her a good yoga instructor.
During every session she makes it her point of duty to address any physical aches you might be having, her instructions are easy to follow and during each pose she makes sure you're comfortable.
Asha is very knowledgable about yoga, she is always able to tell you the advantages of a specific pose (I appreciate that). I've always had a good time in yoga class and I've always felt physically and mentally relaxed after each class.

Asha is a very observant, insightful, knowledgeable and most importantly patient, teacher. I would highly recommend her for a group or private class. I leave her classes feeling refreshed, revitalized and mentally soothed.

Asha is an excellent yoga instructor. Her knowledge about the techniques and ability to communicate in the class was clear and direct. I am a yoga novice and I was able to follow along easily. Asha was attentive and paid close attention to my technique and took the time to stop and help me make the adjustments so that I could understand the position. She asked about any problem areas and was able to give me feedback that accommodated areas of weakness for me.
Devina B, Pembroke Pines FL
Asha has a passion for Yoga and a devotion to teaching it in its purest form. She is aware of every nuance of each pose and she makes sure her students get the most from their practice. She treats each student as an individual and she gets to know their strengths and weaknesses, and then customizes her classes accordingly. She understands injuries -- I worked with her when I was recovering from a torn rotator cuff, and she spent so much time ensuring she gave me the most appropriate and beneficial movements and then making sure I did them precisely in the manner that they would be most therapeutic. It is such a joy to come to a yoga class where the teacher makes you feel that she is teaching directly to you, and that is precisely how Asha makes her students feel.
Jennifer H, Port Saint Lucie FL
I had been trying to join a Yoga class in my community for years. The first class I actually did join was taught by Asha. Asha provided very individual attention to every student in the class. She was very considerate and sensitive to the needs of each person. She encouraged those of us older students who lacked confidence in our abilities. She made the class very enjoyable and opened up a new world to me through the practice of Yoga which I still continue three years later.
