Pines Iyengar Yoga came into existence four years ago, born out of my desire to share the therapeutic techniques learned from my 15 years of experience, studying and practicing yoga.
My personal journey began after two car accidents one week apart. They resulted in muscle spasms, multiple prescriptions for pain medication, stress and intense fatigue. I found yoga after my physiotherapist recommended it as means of managing the pain.
After a few sessions I had overcome the physical limitations and went on to discover a healthier and more grounded version of myself that had not existed before. There began my passion for the therapeutic applications of yoga that exists to this day.
After over fifteen hundred hours of training and over a decade of client contact, I became a Certified Teacher in the Iyengar Yoga Method (CIYT) and then a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).
The Iyengar method provides a safe and systematic approach for learning yoga. It was developed by BKS Iyengar, the world's foremost authority on yoga, and is known in the industry for its skillful use of props.
The method works by realigning the body to work at its optimum, thus leading to an overall sense of well-being. In general, it increases strength, stamina and flexibility and can be used to compliment any workout routine.
Very famously, however, it is used in the prevention and management of pain. Reduced backache, reduced knee pain, better breathing, reduced anxiety, better posture are only some of the benefits often reported. The method ensures that regardless of your age or level of flexibility, the many benefits of yoga will be accessible to you.
